Nicholas scores, wins the Robertson face-off again.
Final Score: Leafs 5, Stars 3
Casey DeSmith started the third period in goal for the Stars after Jake Oettinger allowed four goals on 12 shots through two periods by Toronto.
At one point in the game, the shot counter showed eight for the Leafs… at the time where they had 4 goals. That save percentage was all the way down for Otter, finishing the game at a very sub-par 0.667.
Meanwhile, the other end of the ice housed Joseph Woll, Oettinger’s good friend. The Stars tested him often, forcing him to make 36 saves on 39 shots.
This game was hopefully an aberration - in the sense that the Leafs won while somehow only getting 19 shots on goal.
The Leafs made up for the lack of shots with hits. This was as physical a game as I can remember the Leafs playing. I’m unsure if that was the game plan going in but it worked regardless.
A definite positive was killing all four Dallas power-plays, despite having their lone chance fizzle out as well.
Question(s) for the Stars: What does this result mean for Jake Oettinger? Was it hopefully nothing more than an aberration?
The Leafs are in Buffalo tonight to see the Sabres again. 7pm puck drop.
