Got to mix in a few new teams for Round Three, including both teams involved in the first match I saw this week.

North Melbourne Kangaroos 12.9 (81) vs. Essendon Bombers 9.15 (69)

The good news for Essendon is that they gave up less than 100 points after getting bombarded their first two weeks by Hawthorn and Port Adelaide. They also kept this game much closer after being beaten by over 60 points in the first two.

The bad news? The young team still couldn’t find a way to turn the improved defense into success on the other end of the field.

To make things worse for the winless squad, they take on the undefeated Western Bulldogs next Round.

Melbourne Demons 15.10 (100) vs. Carlton Blues 11.11 (77)

When I’d posted to the AFL subreddit about getting into the sport, I’d mentioned that I’m a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. This was met with suggestions to support the Carlton Blues due to a similar color scheme and track record. I made it known that the similar track record was a sign for me to look elsewhere when it comes to throwing my support at a team.

Carlton had the lead after kicking the first seven goals of the game. They went up by as many as 43 points … and then found a way to lose. Safe to say, for now, Carlton won’t become my favorite team.

After three matches, Essendon and Richmond are still winless. They don’t play each other until Friday, May 22, in Round 11. Hopefully both teams can get a few wins before that clash!
