The 2026 AFL season is in full gear, with all teams now having played two or three games.
This week, I was (un)fortunate enough to watch the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn Hawks live. Yes, it was an ungodly time to be awake. But watching live sports from the other side of the world is the fun part of insomnia!
Hawthorn Hawks 14.15 (99) vs. Sydney Swans 13.4 (82)
The opening quarter was off to a frantic pace and the Swans’ first six scores were eahch ix points. Hawthorn kept themselves closse enough and took the lead at various points of the game. But they pulled away in the end, being responsible for four of the final five goals of the game.
Gold Coast Suns 19.14 (128) vs. Richmond Tigers 9.6 (60)
I tried to watch as many teams as possible before doing a repeat. But the Suns being undefeated going in made this a must-watch for me. The Suns ran away with this one, led by ben King with seven goals. One of the AFL’s best though, Christian Petracca, had to leave the game with injury. His absence should alter how the Suns deploy next round.
Greater Western Sydney Giants 10.14 (74) vs. St. Kilda Saints 11.12 (78)
The tension was visible easily from even before the start of the game. St. Kilda took advantage of the Giants making inexcusable errors and playing angry. That said, it likely should have been a much bigger win. GWS cleaned up their game in the second half and made it interesting. Shout-out Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, who seemed to be everywhere on the field.
I tried to find a stream of the West Coast Eagles vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos but no luck. I’ll try to mix in more new teams next week!
